On last Thursday, President Obama spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast. During his speech, he outlined three things he believed everyone should keep in mind as we face the ongoing war that is being waged by Islamic extremists in the Middle East and North Africa who are also targeting Europe (in fact, another Paris, France-like terrorist attack took place at the time of this recording in Copenhagen, Denmark) and these same Islamic extremists have threatened to carry out attacks in America. Those three things are: humility about matters of faith, maintaining the separation between religion and government; and a commitment to the Golden Rule — treating others as we wish to be treated. When this situation came to the light it caused a good deal of controversy, as expected. Of course, on one side, there was the homosexual rights advocates and their allies. But, in the Christian community there was also division — some people applauded the school’s decision while others questioned whether the school was right to reject two young children simply because of their parents’ sinful lifestyle. Last week, the Supreme Court decided that it would take up the issue of homosexual marriage this year after passing on the issue last year. What the Supreme Court decides within a few months will have consequences for the entire nation for years to come. Currently, 36 states allow homosexual marriage; 19 states have laws banning homosexual marriage. Unfortunately, the legal acceptance of homosexual marriage has been promoted by President Obama and his administration. In his six years as president, Barack Obama has overturned the Defense of Marriage Act, overturned the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy (allowing openly homosexual individuals to come out in the military and to enlist in the military), and expanded government benefits for homosexuals working for the government among other things. Christians have long considered America a haven for freedom of expression especially in regards to religious matters. Many of the groups of people who first settled on American soil came because they were fleeing religious persecution of some kind. They were Puritans, Quakers, Pilgrims, Moravians, Roman Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, and Lutherans. They came to America because they wanted to be free to express their religious views and carry out their religious duties without being under the threat of censure or persecution. Continue Reading

On the same day of the march on Washington for justice for the unarmed black men who are being killed in America by police, on CNN, Martin Luther King III, was asked what he believes his father’s response would be to all that is happening today. He said that his father, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., would support those who protest against an unfair justice system, but at the same time, he would call on the black community to address the issues that we face internally such as: black on black crime, broken homes and families, and young black people not pursuing their education etc. Continue Reading
